 Lesson 3
I. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:

III. PROCEDURE Warm-up – Listen and repeat – Let’s talk – Let’s sing - Homelink

 Warm-up 7 minutes
 - Option 1: Have a group of pupils to sing the chant on Whole class
 page 52 in front of the class. 
 - Option 2: Invite a few pupil to point to the picture in 
 sachmem or poster for Unit 12 and say the structure, 
 e.g. Look at ___. 
 - Option 3: Select one pupil who has changed some lines 
 of the chant and chant it in front of the class.
 - Get pupils to open their books and look at Lesson 3 
 page 53 (saying Open the books and look at lesson 3, 
 please!).
 6. Listen and repeat. 5 minutes
 Step 1: Have pupils look at the picture, saying Look at the picture, Whole class
 please! Ask them who the girl is, saying Who is she? Is she 
 Lucy? Yes, she’s Lucy. Then let them point to Lucy and say 
 Look at Lucy. Play the recording several times for pupils to 
 listen and repeat the sentence. Explain the meaning of the 
 sentence and how it is used (as mentioned in Input).
 Invite a few pupils to listen and repeat Look at Lucy in front 
 of the class. Correct their pronunciation, if necessary or 
 Step 2: praise them if they pronounced the sentence correctly, Individual work saying Very good!
 Repeat the same procedure with Look at the lemons. Go 
 around and offer help, if necessary.
 Play the recording again and let pupils listen and repeat 
 Step 3: Look at Lucy and Look at the lemons in pairs or groups. 
 Correct pronunciation to make sure pupils can repeat 
 correctly the two sentences. Pair or group

 Encourage some pupils to repeat the sentences in front of 
 the class. Go around and praise them if they performed 
 well, saying Well done!

7. Let’s talk. 10 minutes
 Step 1: Have pupils look at the bubbles. Explain the difference Whole class
 between Look at + name of people and Look at the + name of 
 things. Check comprehension.
 Step 2: Point to Picture a and model the task, using the expression Individual work
 in the bubble and the picture cue. For example, Look at 
 Lucy. Pair work or 
 Step 3: Ask pupils to say Look at Lucy in chorus and individually. group work
 Correct pronunciation, if necessary.
 Get pupils to work in pairs or in groups to point to the 
 pictures (a and b) and give commands, saying Point to the 
 pictures and say, please! Go around and offer help, if 
 necessary. Whole class 
 Step 4: Repeat the same procedure with the second structure ”Look 
 at the _____.”
 Extension: With better classes, let some pupils point to their friends 
 and things in the classroom and say the sentences in front of 
 the class. E.g. Look at Mai. Look at the book.
8. Let’s sing. 10 minutes
 Step 1: Have pupils look at the first three sentences Look at Lucy of Whole class
 the first verse of the lyrics. Explain their meaning. Check 
 comprehension.
 Play the recording for pupils to listen and repeat three 
 Step 2: Individual work
 sentences, saying Listen and repeat, please! Show them how 
 to sing and clap their hands or do actions.

 Step 3: Ask pupils to look at the sentence She’s running round the 
 lake. Explain its meaning. Check comprehension. Then play 
 the recording for pupils to listen and repeat She’s running 
 round the lake. Correct pronunciation, if necessary.
 Repeat the same procedure with the second verse of the

 Play the recording all the way through and ask pupils to do 
 work
 Step 5: choral and individual repetition of the song. Then have them 
 sing the song in pairs or groups, saying Listen and sing the song, please! Go around and offer help, if necessary.
 Select some pairs or groups to the front of the class to sing

 Step 6: With a better class, have pupils change some lines in the 
 second verse of the lyrics and perform the song in front of

 Option 1: Pupils sing by heart the song on page 53. Whole class

 and practice singing the song at home.
 Pupils do the project on page 39 in their workbooks.

 Warm-up 7 minutes
 - Remind pupils of the names of the topics they have learnt Whole class 
 from Unit 9 to Unit 12.
 - Then:
 Option 1: Revising the sounds and words
 - Show flashcards of the letters o, m, u and l. Have pupils Whole class 
 say the letter names and the letter sounds.
 - Stick some flashcards including some pictures of the words 
 from Unit 9 to Unit 12 on the board. Write the words on the Individual work
 board. Have pupils match. 
 Option 2: Playing games
 - Have pupils play a game (e.g. Slap the board, Mystery bag Whole class 
 or Pass the word) with the words they learnt in the 
 previous units. 
 - Have them open the books and look at the story Phil and 
 Sue, saying Open your books and look at the story Phil and Group work
 Sue, please!
 1. Listen and repeat. 15 minutes
 Step 1 Have pupils look at the pictures. Ask them some questions, Whole class 
 such as Who are in the pictures? What are they doing?... 
 Then have pupils guess the content of the story.
 Step 2 Have pupils look at Picture 1, saying Look at Picture 1, Whole class 
 please! and describe the picture. Draw pupils’ attention to Individual work
 the boy, the girl and the bubbles.
 Step 3 Let pupils listen to the recording, point to the sentence in Whole class 
 the speech bubble and repeat, saying Now listen, point to 
 the sentence and repeat, please! 
 Step 4 Follow the same procedure with Pictures 2, 3 and 4. Whole class 
 Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Give further support 
 to those pupils who fnd it difcult to do the task.
 Step 5 Play the recording of the whole story several times and Whole class 
 have pupils listen, point to the speech bubbles and repeat 
 until they feel confident. Go around and offer help, if 
 necessary.
 Step 6 Play the recording again and invite some pairs of pupils to Whole class 
 listen to the recording and repeat the story in front of the Pair work class, saying Well done! when they performed well. 
 Encourage them to use gestures, face expressions,... when 
 they repeat the story.
 Step 7 Have pupils work in pairs to look at the book and read the Pair work
 story aloud. Encourage them to use gestures, face 
 expressions, Observe and support pupils when needed.
 Extension: After pupils have remembered the story, have them role Whole class 
 play it. Model with one pupil and ask other pupils to Pair work
 observe. Ask pupils to work in pairs to act out without 
 looking at the book. Encourage them to use gestures, face 
 expressions Move around to observe and offer help. 
 Invite some pairs to go to the board and role play. 
2. Look and cirle. 8 minutes
 Step 1 Explain to pupils that they are going to look at the four Whole class 
 pictures and circle the words. These words all appear in 
 the story (in the sentences or in the pictures).
 Step 2 Ask them to identify the thing/animals/actions, saying Whole class 
 What can you see in the pictures? Can you see the sun? Individual work
 Yes, it is the sun. Say the word, please! 
 Ask pupils to repeat the words several times, saying Repeat, 
 please! Tell pupils to circle the bag.
 Step 3 Ask pupils to look at the other pictures and circle the Individual work
 words, saying Now use your pencil to circle the words. Give 
 pupils time to work. Give further support to those pupils 
 who find it difficult to do the task.
 Step 4 Ask pupils to swap the answers with a classmate before 
 checking as a class.
 Step 5 Invite some pupils to show what they have done. Praise Individual work
 them if they have done well. Have the class say all of the Whole class 
 words they have circled.
 Extension: After the pupils have finished circling the words, have Individual work
 pupils read all of the words they have circled. It is a good Whole class 
 way for them to revise the vocabulary items they have 
 learnt. 
 This activity can be held as a competition game where 
 groups of pupils find the words included in the 
 pictures/story. The group with the most words is the 
 winner.
Homelink 5 minutes - Ask pupils some questions about the story such as How Whole class 
many people are there? What are their names? ... Teacher Individual work
can ask in Vietnamese. 
- Then:
Option 1:
Show flashcards of the words that appear in the story and 
have pupils say the words. 
Option 2:
Use sachmem to show the pictures of the story and have 
pupils tell the story from their memory. 
- Tell pupils to practise telling the story at home.
