OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: • use “I like _____.” to talk about someone’s favourite food/drinks. • sing a song with the structure “I like _____.” II. INPUT Language: • I like _______. Resources/Material: • Student’s book p. 25 • sachmem.vn • Teacher’s guide pp. 57-59 • Workbook p. 18 • Computer, projector III. PROCEDURE Warm-up – Listen and repeat – Let’s talk – Let’s sing – Homelink Classroom Procedure Teaching and learning activities management Warm-up 5 minutes Option 1: Whole class - Have pupils listen to the recording, then sing the chant on page 24. - Select some better pupils to sing the chant in front of class. The class listens to them and claps hands along. Option 2: - Show pupils pictures/slides of some food and drinks they have learnt. - Ask them to recall and name the food and drink items (e.g. apple, chips, fish, chicken, milk, ...). Encourage better pupils say more words if they can. Option 3: - Invite one or two pupils write the letter I/i on the board. - Get pupils to say words that contain the sound of the letter I/i (e.g. Bill, fish, chicken, ...). 6. Listen and repeat. 5 minutes Step 1: Have pupils look at the picture of a boy holding a carton of milk. Whole class Explain the meaning of the sentence “I like milk.” in the bubble and how it is used. Check comprehension. Play the recording several times for pupils to listen and repeat Step 2: the sentence, saying Now listen and repeat, please! Whole class Invite a few pupils to listen and repeat the sentence “I like milk.” in front of the class. Correct their pronunciation, if necessary or Step 3: praise them when they pronounced the sentence correctly, Individual work saying Great job! Ask pupils to work in pairs, point to and repeat the sentence “I like milk.”. Go around and correct pronunciation to make sure pupils can repeat the sentence correctly. Pair work Step 4: 7. Let’s talk. 10 minutes Step 1: Have pupils look at the first picture. Point to the carton of milk Whole class and ask them, saying What’s this? Tell them that it is milk, saying It’s milk. Follow the same procedure with other pictures in the activity. Ask pupils to use the structure in the bubble “I like _____.” and Step 2: Picture 1 (milk) to talk about their favourite drink, e.g. I like milk. Whole class Get them to repeat the sentence several times individually and in chorus. Check comprehension. Follow the same procedure with the other pictures in this activity. Make sure pupils understand the structure “I like ____.” Step 3: and say it with the right pronunciation and intonation. Pair or group Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups to practise talking about work favourite food/drinks, saying Now practise talking about your favourite food/drinks, please! Go around and offer help or Step 4: correct pronunciation if necessary. Whole class Select some pairs of pupils to practise talking about favourite food/drinks in front of the class. Praise them, saying That’s right! or Superb!, if they performed well. 1. Ask pupils to talk about what food/drinks they like. Encourage Step 5: them to say as much as they can, e.g. Hi, I’m ___. I Iike ____ and Group/Pair ____. work 2. Play Memory game. Devide the class in four groups. Say an incomplete sentence, e.g. I like ___. and have pupils add a food/drink item to the chain, e.g. I like fish. → I like fish and Extension: milk. ... Group work → I like fish and milk and chips. 8. Let’s sing. 10 minutes Step 1: Have pupils look at the lyrics to get familiarized with the first Whole class verse of the song. Say Now look at the lyrics of the first verse, please! Play the recording several times for pupils to repeat line after line to make sure that they can pronounce the verse correctly. Check comprehension. Have pupils look at the lyrics to get familiarized themselves Step 2: with the second verse of the song. Play the recording several Whole class times for pupils to repeat to make sure that they can pronounce the verse correctly. Check comprehension. Have pupils listen to the whole song, drawing their attention to the pronunciation, the stress and the melody of the song. Say Step 3: Now listen to the whole song, please! Whole class Let pupils practise singing the song. Help them sing the song line by line first. Then help them sing the whole song. If there is time, let them sing the song several times until they feel Step 4: confident. Group work Select some groups to the front of the class to sing the song or ask some pupils to sing the song individually. The class may sing along and clap their hands. Praise them when they performed well, saying Fantastic! or Superb! Step 5: Practise two-part singing. Devide the class into two groups and Whole class ask each group to sing one part of the song. Extension: Group work Homelink 5 minutes - Revise the main teaching point of the lesson - the structure I Whole class like ____. to talk about someone’s favourite food/drinks. Option 1: Ask pupils to draw a food/drink item, show them to the class and say about their favourite food/drink, using I like Individual work ___. Option 2: Have pupils do Activity 6, Unit 5 in their workbooks. Individual work Option 3: Show pupils the lyrics of the song with some missing Individual work words, e.g.: Fish and ______. Fish and ______ I _____ fish and chips. I _____ fish and chips. Then ask some advanced pupils to guess the missing words and sing the complete song aloud. Have pupils greet Whole class and introduce themselves. • Option 1: Have one group of pupils sing the song on p. 25 in front of the class. The class claps their hands. • Option 2: Invite some pupil to sing the chant p. 24. • Option 3: Ask a group of pupil to play Matching game with the target vocabulary. • Have pupils open the books and look at Unit 6, Lesson 1 p. 26, saying Open the books and look at Unit 3, Lesson 1 (page 26). 1. Listen and repeat. 10 minutes Step 1: Open books or access sachmem. Have pupils look at the picture, Whole class saying Look at the picture, please! and describe the picture. Draw pupils’ attention to the words next to the things/colour and the colour of the letter E/e (as mentioned in Input in Teacher’s guide). Check comprehension. Ask pupils to point to the letter E/e, saying Point to the letter E/e, Step 2: please! Have them listen and repeat the sound of the letter E/e, Individual saying Listen and repeat, please! more than once, if necessary. work Tell pupils to point to the pencil in the picture and the word pencil, saying Point to the pencil and the word “pencil”. Ask them Step 3: to listen and repeat the word, saying Listen and repeat, please! Individual Then play the recording again, if necessary, for pupils to do work choral and individual repetition. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Follow the same procedure with the words bell, pen and red. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the Step 4: task. Then encourage pupils to point to the picture and say the Individual words in pairs or groups. work Play the recording again and call a few pupils to say the sound of Pair/group the letter E/e and the words bell, pen, pencil, red in front of the work class. Draw their attention to the letter E/e, the things and the colour red, if necessary. Ask them to point to the letter E/e and say it, saying Point to the Step 2: letter E/e and say, please! Individual Let them point to the pencil and say the word pencil as a model, work Step 3: saying Point and say, please! Remind them of the sound of the letter e in the word pencil. Then ask one pupil to point to the pencil and to say the word pencil in front of the class. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Follow the same procedure with the other words. Go around and correct pronunciation, if necessary. Step 4: Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups to look at the picture, point to the letter E/e, the things/colour and say the sound of the letter E/e and the words. Go around, offer help and correct Step 5: pronunciation, if necessary. Pair or group Invite a few pupils to point to the picture and say the sound of work the letter E/e and the words (bell, pen, pencil, red) in front of the class. If they performed well, praise them, saying Good job! or Great! Step 6: Whole class Fun Pass the ball 7 minutes corner Step 1: Tell pupils that they are going to play the game Pass the ball. Whole class Explain how to play the game (as mentioned in the steps below). Check comprehension. Play the music. Give a ball to one pupil and ask her/him to pass Step 2: it to the second one. The second pupil passes the ball to the Group work third one and so on. Stop the music. Ask the pupil who is holding the ball to say one of the words, e.g. pencil. Step 3: Continue to play the game until all the words are said. Group work With a better class, after the pupils become experts at the Step 4: game, ask pupils to play the game on sachmem. Extension: Group work Homelink 3 minutes Option 1: Pupils practise pronouncing the sound of the letter E/e and Whole class saying the words pen, pencil, bell, red (in Student’s book or sachmem). Option 2: Pupils play Pass the ball in sachmem. Option 3: Pupils do the project on page 18 in Workbook.
